#WhileBLACK

Take a look at my skin. It’s beautiful, isn’t it? It’s rich, warm and textured, just the way God intended it. But these beautiful brown hues are not without trauma. They each tell a story. The experiences of pain, of loss, of disappointment, of struggle. Yet we stand in it, and overcome our adversities…fiercely! relentlessly! proudly!  We descend from ancestors whose plight for freedom and equality came with agony and torment, and our culture is now the benchmark for idolization and appropriation. Our style, our swagger, our confidence, our fortitude... all borrowed by the same people that condemn our greatness. We are Black 24-7. We are profiled because this skin bears powerful truths and painful reminders that are intimidating to some. But we won’t be defeated. Our skin tone won’t be a symbol of suppression. Our stories are not a mere trend. Our lives are not a hot topic. Our struggles don’t ebb and flow like waters along the shore. The warmness of our complexions will continue to illuminate, radiate, and inspire. The moment you get that clarity and understand our vision, you will appreciate our greatness. Maybe then, you will visualize what life is like, While Black!
